Held on a flat, accurately-measured, and very scenic course along the Bay of Lübeck on Germany's Baltic coast, the Ostseelauf draws approximately 1500 participants.

Entrants can choose between the 5k, the 10k, or the half marathon (two laps). Children run one nautical mile (1852 metres).

The start/finish area is at the ‘Seebrücke’ pier of Timmendorfer Strand, one of Germany's most popular beach resorts (pictured).

All races are run out and back the beach promenade (partly on gravel and partly on asphalt) between the fishing village of Niendorf and the resort of Scharbeutz.
