Almost 2,000 runners took part in last year's Ostseelauf (‘Baltic Sea Run’), an early-season running event held annually in the beach resort of Timmendorfer Strand in Germany.
Situated on the coast of the Ostsee (Baltic Sea), approximately 20 kilometres from the city of Lübeck and 80 kilometres from Hamburg, Timmendorfer Strand is one of Germany's best-known seaside holiday destinations.
Four races are available:
- 1 Seemeile (1 nautical mile = ca. 1.68km; kids run)
- 5km
- 10km
- 21.1km Halbmarathon (half marathon)
Starting at the Sportplatz Strand-Arena, the course is flat and scenic. It has been accurately measured.
The route is partly paved and partly unpaved and runs out and back along the coastal promenade between Timmendorfer Strand and Niendorf.
Participants in the half marathon run two laps.
