Leipzig (Germany), Saturday 17 January 2015
The Wintermarathon is a 42.2km marathon race for teams of three runners, held annually in January in the city of Leipzig in Germany's state of Saxony.
All three team members run the full marathon. They must run and finish the race together. It is not possible to start as an individual athlete but runners are allowed to finish the marathon if team members have to drop out of the race.
The route consists of eight 5km laps and one 2.2km lap on flat asphalt and gravel paths through two wooded parks, the Clara-Zetkin-Park and ‘Die Nonne’.
In 2014, 60 teams completed the Wintermarathon.
The fastest male team finished in 2hr 55min, the best mixed team in 3hr 7min, and the first female team in 3hr 58min. The time limit is 5hr 30min.
