Slopné (Czech Republic), Sunday 23 August 2015
Held in the Vizovická vrchovina (Vizovice Highlands) in Moravia, Czech Republic, the Slopenská desítka ("Slopné 10k") forms part of the Český pohár v běhu do vrchu (Czech Mountain Running Cup).
The event offers a very hilly 10k race (with 380m of ascent and 380m of descent) and a number of shorter races for children.
All races begin and end at the football pitch in the village of Slopné, which sits at an elevation of 350m in a lovely and fertile valley, approximately ten kilometres from the spa town of Luhačovice with its many beautiful half-timbered villas (pictured).
The highest point on the course is at about 630m above sea level, near the 4km mark. One third of the course is on asphalt (the first and the last 1.5km) and two thirds on forest trails.
Last year, 145 runners took part in the 10k race. Pavel Hrdina (36:01) and Martina Vévodová (44:50) both set new course records.
