The Varaždinski polumaraton features a half marathon, a 5k run, and children's races, starting at the ‘Stadion Sloboda’ athletics stadium which is on the edge of the beautiful Baroque Old Town of Varaždin, a town of 47,000 people in northern Croatia.

The half marathon course is AIMS-certified, closed to traffic, and very flat and fast (apart from one bridge which runners have to cross twice). The route runs around the Old Town and past the castle (pictured), through residential areas, and out and back a quiet country road. The finish line is on the athletics track inside the stadium.

Around 500 runners took part in the event last year.
