The Varaždinski polumaraton (Varaždin Half Marathon) is a road running event held each September in Varaždin, an old town of about 44,000 people, situated in the far north of Croatia near the borders with Slovenia and Hungary.
Starting on Kapucinski trg (Capuchin Square) on the edge of the very beautiful Baroque Old Town, the route takes the runners through the town centre, around the castle (pictured) and through residential and rural areas.
The course is mainly flat and has been certified by AIMS.
