The Stadtlauf Nürnberg is the largest running event in the Franconia region in northern Bavaria. Last year, around 6500 runners took part in either the half marathon, the 10k race, or the 6k run.

The event is held on the ‘Day of German Unity’, Germany's national day, celebrated on October 3rd to commemorate the anniversary of German reunification.

All races begin and end at the Opera House of Nuremberg (German: Nürnberg), an old and historically important city of half a million people.

The half marathon consists of two laps of a mostly flat course that takes runners through the city centre, through parkland, and around the Wöhrder See (pictured below), a reservoir in the eastern part of Nuremberg.

Instead of a bib number, entrants get a technical T-shirt which they must wear during the race.
