The Trail Jamarun is a wonderful 13km trail running race, held every year in May on the border between Italy and Slovenia.

The race begins and ends in the village of Bagnoli della Rosandra on the edge of the Adriatic port of Trieste in the north-eastern corner of Italy.

The route is incredibly scenic but also very challenging as it features 600m of ascent and 600m of descent, mostly on trails. A few short sections are on asphalt roads.

Participants run through the spectacular Val Rosandra gorge, up to the over-400m-high Karst Plateau (pictured), and through a village in Slovenia.

Last year's Trail Jamarun had 213 finishers. The race limit is 250 runners.

The time limit to complete the course is 2hr 30min.
