The Maisel's Fun Run comprises children's races, a 10.5km quarter marathon, and a half marathon race through the streets of Bayreuth, a town of 70,000 people in the Upper Franconia region in Germany's state of Bavaria.

More than 2,200 runners took part in the event last year.

Starting and finishing at the Brauerei Maisel, one of Germany's largest producers of ‘Weissbier’ (wheat beer), the running event forms part of the Maisel's Weissbierfest, a four-day beer festival that is held annually in spring at the brewery.

Participants in the half marathon run two laps of an undulating and varied course which takes them through Bayreuth's magnificent historic centre, the baroque Hofgarten park, the university campus, a park with a lovely small lake, and past the ‘Villa Wahnfried’ where Richard Wagner worked on some of his famous operas, eg Parsifal and Götterdämmerung.

The route is mostly on asphalt. Some sections are on gravel.
