Canazei (Italy), Sunday 20 July 2014
Only experienced mountain runners should aim to run the Dolomites Skyrace, a prestigious trail running race in the Dolomites in northern Italy.
Starting and finishing in the ski and holiday resort of Canazei (1450m), the route is a gruelling 22km loop which features 1750m of ascent and 1750m of descent.
The highest point on the course is on the summit of Piz Boè (3152m), the highest peak of the 'Gruppo del Sella' massif.
Competitors must carry a windbreaker jacket with them as the race takes place in a high-alpine environment.
Last year, world-class mountain runners Kilian Jornet of Spain (2:00:11) and Emelie Forsberg of Sweden (2:26:52) led an international field of 540 runners from all over Europe and beyond across the finish line.
The entry limit is 600 runners, and the race will probably fill up early.
Update (24 June 2014): The Dolomites Skyrace 2014 is sold out.
