The Maratonina delle Due Province takes runners through two provinces in the north-eastern part of Italy — Gorizia and Udine.

Entrants can choose between the half marathon or the 30k race. Both races begin and end in the village of Medea which is home to the ‘Ara Pacis Mundi’ (pictured), a powerful memorial to the victims of all wars, built on a hill above the village.

The half marathon is mostly flat out and back through farmland and villages. Participants in the 30k race run the half marathon plus a 9k loop which includes approximately three kilometres of gravel roads.

Although the event is held in mid-January, runners can expect the roads to be free of snow. The winter temperatures in the region are moderate as the Adriatic coast is less than 30 kilometres away.
