38th ‘Vienna New Year's Eve Run’ 2014
Wien (Austria), Wednesday 31 December 2014
Held every year at 11am on New Year's Eve, the Wiener Silvesterlauf features a very scenic 5.35km loop course around Vienna's city centre.
The race takes the runners along the imperial Ringstraße which is lined with grandiose buildings such as the Hofburg, the Austrian Parliament buildings, the Rathaus, the University, the Staatsoper, the Burgtheater, or the Kunsthistorisches Museum.
Last year, Florian Reichert of Germany (16min 37sec) and Julia Hauser of Austria (18min 50sec) led an international field of more than 3,300 runners across the finish line. The time limit to complete the course is a generous 90 minutes.
