Tata in the 16th century - engraving by Georg Hoefnagel (Author: Joris Hoefnagel / commons.wikimedia.org / This work is in the public domain in its country of origin and other countries and areas where the copyright term is the author's life plus 100 years or less.)

Admittedly, Tata has changed slightly since Georg Hoefnagel created this wonderful engraving at the end of the 16th century but the medieval castle, the 2.5km-long Öreg-tó (Old Lake), and the smaller Cseke-tó (Small Lake) are still there and all very beautiful and well worth a visit.

Participants in the Tatai Minimarathon will visit all these sights as the 14km route runs around both lakes and the castle, through the Baroque Old Town, and through lovely parkland and woods.

About 900 runners took part in last year's Minimarathon. The top finishers were Gábor Jozsa (44min 27sec) and Zsanett Kis (53min 3sec).
