Entrants to the Schweriner Nachtlauf can choose to run either 5k, 10k, 15k or 20k through Schwerin, an old city of about 100,000 people, situated in a delightful lakeland region in northern Germany.

Held on a Saturday night in May, the event attracts over 800 runners.

The route is a very scenic 5-kilometre loop. Participants run through Schwerin's pedestrianized Altstadt, around two lakes, across the Schlossinsel ("Castle Island") which is home to one of Germany's most beautiful castles, and through the Baroque Schlossgarten.

The event includes children's races, a handcycling race, a 5k nordic walking competition, and a relay for teams of four runners (4x5km).
