The Silesia Marathon takes place in the Upper Silesian Industrial Region, a conurbation of more than 2.5 million people in southern Poland.

The event offers a full marathon and a half marathon, held on an undulating and varied course through a mix of urban and green areas.

The start is in the city of Katowice. The finish line is in the expansive "Silesian Culture and Recreation Park" in the city of Chorzów, about four kilometres from the start.

The first half of the marathon route is a loop through Katowice.

Half marathon runners join the field for the second half of the course which is run through the cities of Siemanowice Śląskie and Chorzów.

Over 700 athletes completed the marathon last year, and 400 took part in the half marathon. The fastest marathon finishers were Grzegorz Czyż (2:42:04) and Ewa Kalarus (3:11:44). The time limit to finish the marathon race is 6 hours.
