16. Kékes Csúcsfutás 2013
Mátrafüred (Hungary), Saturday 15 June 2013
With 1381 finishers last year the Kékes Csúcsfutás in Hungary is the largest of all mountain running races in the Run International Race Guide.
The route is 11.6 kilometres long. It features 671 metres of elevation gain.
The start is in the village of Mátrafüred, which sits at the foot of the Mátra mountain range in northern Hungary, about 85 kilometres from Budapest.
The route follows the road from Mátrafüred to the summit of Kékes (or "Kékestető") — at 1014 metres above sea level Hungary's highest peak.
On top of the mountain all finishers touch a rock that is painted in the colours of the Hungarian flag (pictured).
After the race participants must walk back to Mátrafüred but they can take a shorter route through the forest.
In 2012, the best finishers were Lajos Berecz (45:36) and Diána Szentpéteri (59:23).
