Entrants to the Lipizzanerheimatlauf in Austria's state of Styria can choose to run either 7km, 14km, or a half marathon.

The route is a challenging and scenic 7km loop on roads and trails through farmland and woods. Each lap features 110 metres of ascent and 110 metres of descent.

The start and the finish of all races is on the parade ground of the Bundesgestüt Piber (Federal Stud Piber), situated in the rolling hills west of the city of Graz.

The stud farm is one of the major tourist destinations in the region as it breeds Lipizzaner horses for the famous Spanish Riding School in Vienna.

Over 800 runners took part in the event last year. The half marathon winners were U.S. athlete Andrew Robinson (1:14:12) and Austria's Karoline Dohr (1:34:52).
