Malente (Germany), Sunday 11 August 2013
Participants in the Diekseelauf run 11.5 kilometres of a very scenic multi-terrain course around the Dieksee in Germany's northernmost state of Schleswig-Holstein.
The 3.4-kilometre-long Dieksee is the fourth-largest of about 200 lakes in the 'Holsteinische Schweiz' lakeland region.
Starting and finishing on the lakeside promenade in the resort of Malente, the route is a mix of roads and trails through lovely woods and rolling countryside and through the very pretty village of Timmdorf.
The event also offers a 5km out-and-back run along the lake's southern shore.
Last year's Diekseelauf had around 270 participants. The fastest finishers were Michael Thiel (39:07) and Katja Willmer (51:26)
