The Diekseelauf is a multi-terrain running event held yearly in August at the Dieksee lake in Schleswig-Holstein, the northernmost state in Germany.
The route is 11.5km long, undulating and very scenic as it takes the runners around the Dieksee, the fourth-largest of about 200 lakes in the very beautiful Holsteinische Schweiz lakeland region.
Starting and finishing on the lakeside promenade in Bad Malente-Gremsmühlen, the route is a mix of roads and trails through lovely woods and rolling countryside and through the very pretty village of Timmdorf.
The event also offers a 5km run and a 1.2km children's race. Both races take the runners out and back along the lake's southern shore.
The next Diekseelauf is scheduled to be held in August 2021.
