Leipzig (Germany), Sunday 2 September 2012
Around two thousand 10k runners, one thousand 5k runners, and one thousand children took part in last year's Stadtlauf in Leipzig, a lively city of more than half a million people, situated in Germany's state of Saxony.
The Stadtlauf is held on an attractive inner-city course. The 5k consists of one lap, the 10k of two laps. Starting and finishing on the vast Augustusplatz (pictured above), the route passes a number of Leipzig's most interesting historic and modern sights.
Instead of a bib, entrants get a technical T-shirt which they must wear during the race. Last year, the 10k winners were Frank Schauer (32:45) and Sandra Boitz (38:06).
Competitors will run across the "Markt", where they will pass Leipzig's oldest building, the "Altes Rathaus".
