Wrocław (Poland), Sunday 16 September 2012
Within the last years, the number of participants in the Wrocław Maraton in Poland has grown considerably. Last year, almost 3000 runners took part in the event. The race limit for the 30th jubilee edition in 2012 has been set at 4000 runners.
The route is one loop through Wrocław (also known by its German name "Breslau"), a lively city of over 600,000 people in western Poland.
The start and finish are at the Olympic Stadium in the eastern part of Wrocław, about four kilometres from the city centre.
Most of the route runs through residential and green areas. After approximately 36km participants run through the Old Town with it's many churches and historic buildings, and across the cobbled "Rynek", Wrocław's beautiful main square.
Apart from a couple of bridges, the course is flat and fast.
In 2011, the fastest finishers were Vincent Kipchirchir (2:20:19) and Emily Chepkorir (2:44:53), both of Kenya.
