Il Volo Dell'Aquila — "The Flight of the Eagle" — is an uphill mountain running race in the Carnic Alps in the north-east of Italy.

The event is held in memory of Erwin Maier (1971-2000), a mountaineer from the small town of Paluzza near the border with Austria.

The course is 11.5 kilometres long. It includes about 930 metres of elevation gain.

The start is at Erwin's home in the northern part of Paluzza. From the start, the route heads north across a small hill before it climbs gradually on dirt roads through very pretty forest to the finish at the "Rifugio Casera" mountain hut (1521m) on the beautiful "Malga Pramosio" mountain pasture.

The time limit to complete the course is 3 hours 30 minutes.

A mountain bike race, the "Trofeo Erwin Maier in MTB" - also from Paluzza to the Pramosio pasture - starts 30 minutes after the running race.
