The Fehmarn Marathon brings runners to the island of Fehmarn in Central Europe's northern periphery. Fehmarn is an island in the Baltic Sea, connected to the German mainland by a road and rail bridge. There are also ferry connections with Denmark.

Participants can choose to run 5km, 10km, a 21km half marathon, or a 42km marathon. The full marathon consists of two loops.

The route runs on grassy dikes along the beautiful coastline in Fehmarn's north-western corner, and on roads and trails through the very flat agricultural (and sparsely populated) interior of the island.

The start and finish are at the Strandcamping Wallnau, near the "Wallnau Waterbird Reserve", a lovely resting spot for migratory birds.

Over 200 runners took part in last year's first edition of the event. The top marathon finishers were Sven Peemöller (3:02:49) and Astrid Irwahn (3:25:25).
