Participants will run around the Sulmsee and across the Seggauberg near Leibnitz.

Around 1000 runners and nordic walkers took part in last year's Römerlauf races, held annually on a summer night near the town of Leibnitz in Austria's state of Styria.

The event pays tribute to the Romans who founded the city of Flavia Solva near Leibnitz, and therefore many runners dress up as Romans.

Entrants can choose between three routes which are (roughly speaking) 6km, 10km, and 20km long. The 20k run consists of two laps of a challenging course which includes 160 metres of elevation gain. The 6k route is more or less flat.

The course is scenic, partly on dirt roads, and lit by torches!
