13th Saint Anthony Marathon and Half Marathon 2012
Padua/Padova (Italy), Sunday 22 April 2012
The marathon starts off at the church in Campodarsego.
The Maratona Sant'Antonio in northern Italy offers a half and a full marathon.
Both races are very flat and fast point-to-point courses which finish in the historic centre of the city of Padua (Italian: Padova). The finish line is on the elliptical 'Prato della Valle', one of Europe's largest town squares.
Padua is an appealing city of over 200,000 people, situated on the Venetian Plain, approximately 40 kilometres west of Venice.
A new, AIMS-certified and traffic-free course was introduced in 2011.
Starting in the village of Campodarsego (12 kilometres north of Padua), the marathon consists of a 30km rural loop and a 12km home straight to Padua.
The half marathon starts in the village of Camposampiero (21km north of Padua). Participants run along the route which the preacher Antonio di Padova took on his last trip in the year 1231. He died on his way to Padua, aged 36.
Last year, over 3000 athletes took part in the races. The marathon winners were Tadese Aredo of Ethiopia (2:09:02) and Kenya's Florence Chepsoi (2:29:25).
