8. Balaton maraton és félmaraton 2011
Siófok (Hungary), 19+20 November 2011
With over 2000 participants, the Balaton Marathon and Half Marathon is the most popular running event on the shores of Lake Balaton, the "Hungarian Sea".
Balaton is almost 80 kilometres long and Central Europe's largest lake.
The event offers the following race distances:
|Saturday,||19 Nov 2011,||10.30:||14.07km||(2 laps)|
|Saturday,||19 Nov 2011,||15.30:||7.03km||(1 lap)|
||20 Nov 2011,||11.00:||21.1km||(2 laps)|
Runners can choose to run only one of these races, or they can combine them in different ways. It's possible, for instance, to run a half marathon in two stages (14+7km), or a marathon in three stages (14+7+21km).
In November, you can expect all sorts of weather at Lake Balaton but it doesn't really matter as there is a jovial atmosphere among runners, and the route is very pleasant. Participants run along the lakeside promenade and the tree-lined avenues of Siófok, Balaton's largest resort, located around 100 kilometres from Budapest.
In 2010, the marathon winners were Szabolcs Beda (2:28:17) and Judit Nagy Földingné (2:37:42).
