With over 2,700 finishers last year, the Garda Trentino Half Marathon is a top late-season running event, held in mid-November at the northern tip of Lake Garda, Italy's largest lake.

Starting and finishing in the picturesque old town of Riva del Garda, the route runs northwards through orchards to the town of Arco which is very popular with rock climbers.

Then, competitors run along the River Sarca back to the lake and along the lakeside promenade to the finish on Riva del Garda's main square.

The course is very mildly undulating.

The event is not only popular for its beautiful setting but also for its pasta, strudel and polenta parties, the pre-race breakfast, the well-filled goody bag and the live music concerts on Saturday and Sunday.

In 2010, the winners were Mathew Rugut of Kenya (1:04:07) and Jana Hanane of Morocco (1:14:10).
