7th ‘Saint Barbara Relay Run’ 2011
Velenje (Slovenia), Sunday 4 December 2011
This running race for 4-person relay teams is held at the very pretty Škalsko jezero (Lake Škale), a flooded coal mining pit on the edge of the industrial town of Velenje.
Each team member runs one loop (3.25km) around the lake, mostly on hard-packed dirt trails. There must be at least one woman in the team!
Last year, 48 teams took part in the race. The fastest team finished in 48min 49sec.
The event is held in honour of Saint Barbara, patron saint of miners and other trades.
