The Štanjelski tek takes place on the beautiful Karst plateau in Slovenia's Primorska region, not far from the Adriatic Sea.

Competitors run 8.2km of an undulating course, mostly on gravel roads through forests.

The start and finish are at the 'Lovski dom' (hunting lodge) near Štanjel, a fortified hilltop village with a castle, terraced gardens, and many picturesque stone houses.
