16th International Stinatz Half Marathon 2011

Every year, the half marathon in the village of Stinatz in Austria's low-lying Burgenland province attracts a fair number of runners from neighbouring countries, mostly from nearby Hungary.

Held on a Saturday evening in mid-August, the event offers various distances. The main race is the half marathon, which consists of five laps of a very mildly undulating course through the village. Last year's winners both came from Hungary - Roland Ádók (1:10:28) and Anikó Kálovics (1:19:03).

The 8.4km race (two laps) is open to runners and nordic walkers, the 4.2km run consists of one lap. In addition, there are several children's races. The route is closed to traffic.

Interestingly, neither German nor Hungarian is the most widely spoken language in Stinatz. More than half of the 1400 inhabitants belong to the Burgenland's Croatian minority whose ancestors settled in the region in the 16th century.
