Rovinj Half Marathon "Popolana" 2009

This running event in western Croatia is staged in one of the prettiest towns on the Istrian peninsula, and the route on mixed terrain along and near the coast is very attractive as well. The entry fees go to charity, you get a T-Shirt and a meal after the race, and there are plenty of prizes.

Nevertheless, there were just over 100 finishers in last year's half marathon and the supporting 6k race. Fourty per cent of the participants came from either Slovenia, Italy or Hungary. Many Croats took part in the Rijeka Half Marathon, which was held on the same day, and it will be the same again this year.

The number of runners from neighbouring countries may even grow as the race has been included into the new "International Half Marathon Cup", a series of six races in Italy, Slovenia and Croatia.

Last year's winners both came from Slovenia - Daneja Grandovec and Robert Kotnik.
