Held at Lake Jarun in Croatia's capital Zagreb, the Jarunska trka is a new running event which aims at preventing diabetes through exercise.

The 6.3-kilometre race is one loop around the lake. The route, which is pancake-flat and very fast, runs along the road that encircles the lake.

Although there are no entry fees, all runners get a T-shirt and a meal after the race.

A generous prize fund will attract a number of strong runners, but according to one source (novonordisk.hr) only Croatian nationals are eligible for prizes. This conflicts with our principle that all runners are equal and should be treated the same, irrespective of their nationality.

Lake Jarun is located in the south-western part of Zagreb, separated from the River Sava by a dike. The lake was created in its present form in 1987 for the World University Games (Universiade). It features a rowing regatta course, shingle beaches, cafés, bars and night clubs.
