3rd Castle Race 2010
Otočec (Slovenia), Sunday 10 October 2010
Otočec Castle
The Castle Race is staged in the pretty Krka River Valley in Slovenia's Dolenjska region, a charming area of rolling hills, dense forests, vineyards and thermal spas.
The venue is located half-way between Slovenia's capital city Ljubljana and Croatia's capital Zagreb.
Participants run an 8.4-kilometre loop of undulating roads and trails.
The start and finish are at the sports centre near Otočec Castle, which is beautifully situated on a little island in the River Krka and surrounded by approximately 30 tiny islets - a paradise for waterfowl.
The route runs across the two wooden bridges that connect the island with the river banks. Participants run along the Krka and across a golf course, and they also pass Struga Castle, which stands on a terrace close to the river.
In 2009, the winners were Primož Kobe (27:28) and 12-year-old Katarina Gorenc (33:41).
