Half Marathon Mihanović 2009
This is not only one of the oldest but also one of the nicest running events in Croatia. But don't expect to run a fast time, the route is very hilly.
In the morning, a bus will drive you 7km to the start in the hill town of Klanjec. After a group photo with the memorial of the poet Antun Mihanović and a deafening bang coming from a historic pistol you will run through a gorge along the Slovene border and through the pretty museum village of Kumrovec where you will pass the birthplace and the school of Tito, the father of communist Yugoslavia.
The second half of the race will include some steep climbs in the Zagorje, a delightful area of wooded hills, lush vineyards, cornfields, vegetable plots, old cottages, and the odd castle. The race will finish in Tuheljske Toplice, a village with a very popular, modern, open-air spa complex. The after-race party, however, usually takes place at the old and a bit rustic pool - also good fun!
