Mountain Race Lovran - Učka 2009
In this mountain race you will run from Lovran on the east coast of the Istrian peninsula up to Vojak (1401m), the highest peak of the Učka mountain massif.
From the start in the old town of Lovran you will run 3km along the coast to Medveja, a small village and summer resort with a campsite and a pebble beach.
Here will begin your climb on forest trails through the Učka nature park, a protected area. After 7km you will come to the village of Lovranska Draga at an elevation of 350 metres, where the juniors will finish the race.
Apart from a short downhill section after about 8.5km there won't be many possibilities to relax your muscles. Never mind, you will be awarded with fantastic panoramic views of Istria and the islands of Cres and Krk.
From the finish you will have to walk down to the mountain hut Poklon at an elevation of 922 metres to get your bag with your personal clothing. A bus will bring you back to Lovran in the afternoon.
The course records are held by Mitja Kosovelj of Slovenia (1:13:01) and Barbara Belušić of Croatia (1:29:26).
