Hochpuster Valley Run 2009
Start is in Innichen (San Candido).
This is a fast cross-border race from South Tyrol in Italy to East Tyrol in Austria. For the first time, the event incorporates a half marathon in addition to the 12.1km race.
The start is at an elevation of 1172 metres in Innichen (Italian: San Candido), a popular holiday destination very close to the breathtaking Sexten Dolomites. The race follows the cycle path along the green Hochpuster Valley and the River Drava (which is still a small stream in these parts).
The course is mildly undulating and overall downhill with an elevation loss of 98 metres.
Participants in the 12k race run directly to the finish line in Sillian, Austria. Half marathon runners, however, pass Sillian to turn around in the village of Tassenbach, from where they run back to the finish.
Parties with live music before and after the race promise two hot summer nights in the Alps.
In 2008, the 12k race was dominated by runners from South Tyrol with Alexander Steinmaier and Elena Cassaro winning comfortably.
