Lake Ossiach Night Half Marathon 2009
Lake Ossiach in the Austrian province of Carinthia is 11km long and too large to stage a half marathon around the entire lake - you would have to run 29km to go once around.
Therefore, you will start in the village of Ossiach on the southern shore and run clockwise around the western half of the lake to the finish in Bodensdorf on the northern shore. 7k runners and walkers will start in Annenheim at the western end of the lake. Before the start, bus and ferry services will bring the competitors to the start.
The race is very popular not only with holidaymakers and runners from neighbouring countries but also with Kenyan elite athletes. In 2008, Micah Kiplagat Samoei beat three compatriots to win in a time of 1:06:04. Local veteran Erich Kokaly was first European past the post in 1:11:58. Ida Šurbek from Slovenia led the women home in 1:20:35.
