10th Lake Reschen Race

The popular 15.3km race around Lake Reschen in South Tyrol will celebrate its 10th anniversary this year, and on that special occasion the event will be held for the first time in the late evening, followed by a party with live music and a firework display at midnight.

The route takes you once around the 6km-long artificial lake at an elevation of 1500 metres. The 14th-century church tower rising spookily out of the lake is a reminder that 163 homes were blown up and submerged when the 22-meter deep lake was created in 1950.

It's a beautiful setting for a race, and the route is right along the lakefront. The course is quite flat on the eastern side of the lake and undulating in the west. Approximately 80% of the course is on asphalt.

There won't be a prize fund but many runners will be awarded with practical prizes. And you are well advised not to miss the raffle - you may come home with a Fiat 500 car.

You can stay in one of the hotels or guest houses near the lake, but the organizers also offer some possibilities to camp or to stay overnight in the sports hall.

In 2008, the winners were South Tyrol's elite athletes Hermann Achmüller (50:09) and Renate Rungger (59:15). Achmüller won the race six times, and three times he finished second place. Renate Rungger has so far won four times.
