8th Rijeka Half Marathon 2009
The half marathon in Croatia's largest port has become the most popular running event in the western part of Croatia. However, no need to worry about congestion before the start - Croatia can't compare to neighbouring countries in terms of the number of runners. Last year, the event saw overall 228 finishers in the half marathon and the relay race for teams of three runners.
The race starts and finishes on Korzo, Rijeka's main pedestrian boulevard. The out-and-back course runs westwards along the shipyards to the windsurfing resort of Preluk Bay. The route is traffic-free, undulating, and close to the shore. The atmosphere on Korzo is good. In the last years, there was some music, free lunch for all participants, and plenty of prizes.
Although the race features quite a few long ascents many runners have achieved good results in Rijeka. The course is accurately measured and AIMS-certified.
