The Petelinjski tek ('Petelinje Run') is an event for nature lovers of all ages, held annually in the thinly-populated Notranjska region in the south-western part of Slovenia.

It offers a 4km and a 12.3km multi-terrain race, children's races and a guided walk.

All routes begin and end in the village of Petelinje, which is located about halfway between Slovenia's capital Ljubljana and the Croatian port of Rijeka.

The 12.3km race is an undulating run on mixed terrain (more on gravel than on asphalt) through beautiful grassland and woods and two villages, Klenik and Trnje.

It also passes two intermittent lakes, Petelinjsko jezero (Lake Petelinje, pictured above) and Palško jezero (Lake Palčje). These are karst depressions that fill with water in rainy periods — a very rare natural phenomena.
