The Petelinjski tek ('Petelinje Run') is held annually in Petelinje, a village located in the thinly-populated Notranjska region in the south-western part of Slovenia, about sixty kilometres from Ljubljana.

The event offers a 12.3km race (tekmovalni tek), a 4.3km run (rekreacijski tek) and several races for children.

The 12.3km race is an undulating run on mixed terrain (more on gravel than on asphalt) through beautiful grassland and woods and two villages, Klenik and Trnje.

In proximity to the course are two intermittent lakes, Petelinjsko jezero (Lake Petelinje, pictured above) and Palško jezero (Lake Palčje). Both are karst depressions that fill with water in rainy periods—a very rare natural phenomenon.
