The Silvestrovský beh medzi mostami ("New Year's Eve Run between the Bridges") is one of Slovakia's oldest running events.
Held annually on 30 December in Piešťany, the largest spa town in the country, the race features a very fine setting and a scenic course.
The event offers races for all ages and abilities:
- 150m, 750m, 1.25km kids' races
- 5.1km (three laps)
- 10.2km (six laps)
- 10.2km relay (for teams of up to six runners)
Starting at the Hudobný pavilón Mušľa, a futuristic bandstand in the vast mestský park (town park), the route is a 1.7km loop through the park with its many beautiful old trees and along the Váh river passing the crutch-breaker statue (pictured above) which stands for the therapeutic effects of Piešťany's thermal mineral water.
