The Maratona del Custoza was a marathon running event held annually between 2000 and 2011 in a wine-producing region in the Province of Verona in Italy.
Starting and finishing at the Villa Venier in the village of Sommacampagna, the race was a very hilly and scenic run through vineyards, agricultural land and villages.
The route also took the runners across the 650-metre-long Visconti Bridge (an over 600-year-old fortified dam), through the village of Borghetto with its beautiful watermills and narrow streets (pictured above) and along the River Mincio.
In 2012 and 2013, a 25km multi-terrain race, the Trofeo del Custoza, was held instead of the marathon.
