Sunday 29 March 2020 - Cancelled due to coronavirus outbreak!
The Rotary Futófesztivál (‘Rotary Running Festival’) is held yearly in spring in the city of Debrecen in eastern Hungary.
Four race distances are available:
- 5.275km: Minimaraton
- 10.55km: 1/4 Maraton
- 21.1km: 1/2 Maraton
- 42.2km: Maraton
- 42.2km: Maraton váltó (marathon relay for teams of five runners)
Starting at II. János Pál pápa tér (Pope John Paul II Square) in the northern part of the city, the route is a very flat 5.275km loop around the wooded Nagyerdei park (Great Forest Park).
The half marathon is four laps and the full marathon is eight laps of this course.
The route runs entirely through green areas, passing the zoo, the Aquaticum thermal spa complex and the imposing main building of the University of Debrecen (pictured).
Towards the end of each lap, participants run through the Nagyerdei Stadion, a beautiful state-of-the-art football stadium which opened in 2014.
