Sunday 29 March 2020 - Postponed due to coronavirus outbreak! New date: 25 October 2020
Held in Hungary's paprika capital, the Szeged Maraton offers three race distances:
- 42.2km marathon (for individual runners and relay teams of up to ten runners)
The start and the finish are on the vast park-like Széchenyi tér (Szécheny Square) in the heart of Szeged, the third-largest city in the country with a population of about 160,000, located on the Great Plain near the borders with Serbia and Romania.
All three races feature mainly flat, varied and scenic routes which take the runners at first through Szeged's historic core, passing the imposing Votive Church (pictured), and then along and across the Tisza river and through Erzsébet Liget, the largest park in the city.
The 30k and the marathon route also run through rural areas and remote villages near the Hungary-Serbia border.
