Held in Hungary's paprika capital, the Szeged Maraton offers the following race distances:

  • 1km gyerekfutás (kids run)
  • 4km
  • 11km
  • 21.1km félmaraton (half marathon)
  • 31.5km
  • 42.2km maraton (marathon)
  • 42.2km maraton váltó (marathon relay for teams of two to ten runners)

The start and the finish are on the vast park-like Széchenyi tér (Szécheny Square) in the heart of Szeged, the third-largest city in the country with a population of about 160,000, located on the Great Plain near the borders with Serbia and Romania.

All routes are mainly flat and scenic.

The marathon course runs through Szeged's historic core, passing the imposing Votive Church (pictured), and then along the Holt-Maros (an oxbow lake), along the Tisza river, and through rural areas and remote villages near the Hungary-Serbia border.
