Held in Hungary's paprika capital, the Szeged Maraton offers the following race distances:

  • 500m and 1km kids run (gyerekfutás)
  • 3km run and nordic walking
  • 10.5km run and nordic walking
  • 21.1km half marathon (félmaraton)
  • 31.5km
  • 42.2km marathon (maraton)
  • 42.2km marathon relay for teams of up to eight runners (maraton váltó)

The start and the finish are at the imposing Votive Church (pictured) on Dóm Square in the heart of Szeged, the third-largest city in the country with a population of about 160,000, located on the Great Plain near the borders with Serbia and Romania.

Participants in the marathon run four laps of a certified and flat course through the city centre. Each lap includes just 12 metres of elevation gain.

The time limit to finish the race is six hours.
