The Herzogstadtlauf takes place in Straubing, an old town of about 48,000 people situated on the right bank of the Donau (Danube) on the fertile Gäuboden plain in Niederbayern (Lower Bavaria), Germany.

The event begins on Saturday afternoon with the kids' races and the 2k Inklusionslauf for runners of all abilities.

The 5k, the 10k and the half marathon are held on Sunday morning.

Participants in the half marathon run two laps through different parts of the town, including the beautiful historic core.

The start and the finish line are on the vast Am Hagen car park which hosts every August the Gäubodenvolksfest, an eleven-day fair that draws more than one million beer drinkers and fun seekers.
