The Herzogstadtlauf takes place in Straubing, an old town of about 48,000 people situated on the right bank of the Donau (Danube) on the fertile Gäuboden plain in Niederbayern (Lower Bavaria) in southern Germany.

The event begins on Saturday afternoon with the children's races and the 2k Inklusionslauf for runners of all abilities.

The 5k and the 10k are held on Sunday morning.

The start and the finish line are on the vast Am Hagen car park which hosts every August the Gäubodenvolksfest, an eleven-day fair that draws more than one million beer drinkers and fun seekers.

All races are single-loop courses. Both the 5k and the 10k routes take the runners through Straubing's beautiful historic core.
