The Freiburg Marathon is a road running event held in Freiburg im Breisgau, a provincial yet lively university city of over 220,000 people, located in the state of Baden-Württemberg in the south-western corner of Germany.

These races are available:

  • 400m/1.1km Kinderlauf (kids' run, on Saturday)
  • 10km
  • 21.1km Halbmarathon (half marathon)
  • 42.2km Marathon
  • 21.1km Schülermarathon (half marathon relay race for teams of seven young athletes)
  • 42.2km Marathonstaffel (marathon relay race for teams of four runners)

All races begin and end at the Messe Freiburg trade fair grounds in the northern part of the city.

The full marathon is two laps of a scenic round trip through different parts of this historic city which nestles at the foot of the Schwarzwald (Black Forest) mountain range.

The route travels through Freiburg's very pretty Altstadt (Old Town), passing the magnificent Freiburger Münster (pictured), and along the Dreisam river to the Schwarzwald-Stadion football stadium in the eastern part of the city.

The course is gently undulating, the first half being uphill (approximately 65 metres of elevation gain) and the second half downhill.
