The Lauf-Samstag Füssen is a running event held on a Samstag (Saturday) in July in Füssen, a picturesque old town situated at the foot of the Alps in Bayern (Bavaria) in the far south of Germany, right on the border with Austria.

The event offers three races:

  • 10.5km Viertelmarathon (quarter marathon)
  • 21.1km Halbmarathon (half marathon)
  • 42.2km Königsschlösser Marathon (‘Royal Castles Marathon’)

The marathon course is generally flat and very varied and scenic as it takes the runners through lovely rural areas, along the shores of three lakes and along the Lech river. Furthermore, the course offers fine vistas of the Alps and of two royal castles—world-famous Neuschwanstein (pictured above) and Hohenschwangau.

The race is run about half on asphalt and half on gravel.
