The Festplatz in the Küchwald, Chemnitz, Germany (1911) -- Author: Brück & Sohn Kunstverlag Meißen / / public domain / image cropped by

The Küchwaldlauf takes place in the Küchwaldpark, a public park established in the early 20th century in the city of Chemnitz in Germany's state of Sachsen (Saxony).

Held annually in April, the event offers a 10-kilometre multi-terrain race, a 1.3-kilometre run and a 400-metre run for children.

All races start and finish on the Eisschnelllaufbahn (speed skating rink) of the Eissportzentrum Chemnitz.

The 10k race features a rather unusual route. Competitors run three laps on the oval, followed by a challenging 3.6-kilometre loop through the park (40 metres of ascent), another loop on the ice rink and a second loop in the park.

Every year, the 10k draws approximately 250 to 300 runners.
