The Spreewald Marathon in Germany is a family-friendly amateur sport event for runners, walkers, hikers, cyclists, inline skaters, longboarders, paddlers and standup paddlers.

It is held annually over a weekend in the spring in the Spreewald, a vast wetland area criss-crossed by numerous brooks and canals.

Located in the state of Brandenburg, approximately 100 kilometres from Berlin, the ‘Spree Forest’ has been protected as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1991.

The event features two venues—the town of Lübbenau and the village of Burg.

There is a variety of races for runners to choose from:

  • Lübbenau
    • 5km night run (Friday)
    • 400m kids run (Saturday)
    • 5km family run (Saturday)
    • 21.5km Biosphere Reserve run (Saturday)
  • Burg:
    • 4.5km night run (Saturday)
    • 400m kids run (Sunday)
    • 2km run (Sunday)
    • 10km run (Sunday)
    • 21.1km half marathon (Sunday)
    • 42.2km marathon (Sunday)

All routes are flat and very scenic. The marathon and the half marathon are run mainly on asphalt. The Biosphere Reserve run takes place on mixed terrain.
