The Meißner Nachtlauf (‘Meißen Night Run’) is a Paarlauf (‘Pair Run’), a running event for relay teams of two runners.
It is possible to run the race as an individual, but only teams are eligible for prizes.
The event is held annually in the spring on the narrow cobbled streets of the picturesque old town of Meißen which sits on the left bank of the Elbe river, near the city of Dresden in Germany's state of Sachsen (Saxony).
The race is 17.6km long — sixteen laps of a challenging 1.1km loop course through the historic town centre. Each lap features 20 metres of ascent.
Relay partners complete laps in turns, so that each participant runs eight laps (8 x 1.1km). Teams can be male, female or mixed.
The start and the finish are on Markt, the main square in Meißen's Old Town (pictured).
